If a pilot loses contact with ATC, this saves the day... Steady green = Cleared to land. Steady red = Do not land, go around. Flashing green = You can land here, but not yet. Flashing red = This airport is closed to you - divert somewhere else. At East Midlands Airport, it takes two years to qualify as an ATC, and unlike most airports, they hire their controllers in-house. We filmed what it’s really like to work as an ATC.
