In the late 1990s, BNSF Railway had just completed its merger and the new company needed more locomotives immediately. General Electric Transportation constructed several orders of C44-9W “Dash-9” type locomotives for BNSF, including an order for about 100 locomotives that was placed by the Santa Fe railroad prior to the merger. These locomotives were delivered in the classic Santa Fe red and silver “Superfleet” paint scheme, but with BNSF lettering. You can still see many of these locomotives p
