Revelation 16:16 states, “And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.” The name Armageddon comes from the Hebrew Har-Megiddo, meaning “Mount of Megiddo,” referring to the ancient site of Tel Megiddo in northern Israel. A tel (or tell) is an archaeological mound formed by layers of ancient settlements built over thousands of years, and Tel Megiddo—overlooking the Jezreel Valley—contains more than twenty layers of ruins dating from around 7000 BCE to 300 BCE.
