We are on passage sailing 1000 miles from Tonga to Vanuatu and came across an island in the middle of the ocean. It literally pops up out of nowhere. We went right up close but it was surrounded by rocks and coral so we were unable to anchor or get to land. Slowly a group of kids started to appear out of the jungle, staring at us. They made a fire and were waving to us, but we were too far away to interact with them. We were silently gazing at each other, with them confused about our intentions.
