Dragonfly Bonsai Pots are artisan, hand-made containers made for bonsai by Graham Simpson of England. Although Graham creates a variety of different forms, including cascade pots, round drum pots and ovals, his speciality lies with nanban style pots for bunjin / literati trees.

Graham started out making his pots in around 2015. Unlike many potters Graham set out to make bonsai pots from the very start. He doesn't consider himself a potter in the 'traditional' sense, he's never made a cup or plate for example. He is particularly drawn to Nanban styles.

The body of the pot has a classical design that widens to the rim. The pot sits on delicate feet and the finish is a superb lighter blue, with dark blue specks and hints of running browns. Dragonfly Bonsai Pots. ( トン ボ - tonbo) A 21 cm textured Nanban in a charcoal grey finish with hints of red. This beautifully made Nanban has a rustic manipulated form and wonderful natural-looking aesthetic. The finish is textured with subtle inclusions, in a superb charcoal grey, with hints of brown and red. Stamped with Dragonfly's '+' and 'トンボ' stamps.

All products made by Simpson Pottery are handmade and wheel-thrown. Each piece of clay must first be weighed out and then carefully wedged to remove any air bubbles. The clay is then thrown on the wheel, which involves a certain level of skill.
