A San Mateo County measure giving the Board of Supervisors temporary authority to potentially remove the county sheriff appeared to be overwhelmingly approved by voters in an updated tally of semi-official results that showed most ballots had been counted as of Thursday afternoon.

After early returns from Tuesday's special election indicated overwhelming support for giving the board of supervisors the power to oust embattled San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus, she promised she would not go down without a fight.

A strong majority of San Mateo County voters favor removing Sheriff Christina Corpus, according to early returns from Tuesday’s special election. As of 11 p.m., more than 85% — at least 78,319 voters — had voted “yes” on Measure A, which would grant the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors temporary authority to remove the sheriff.
