President Trump ordered the District of Columbia National Guard to take over the Metropolitan Police Department after saying the city has become overrun with crime and homelessness.

West Virginia is sending 300 to 400 members of its National Guard to the nation's capital to assist in the Trump’s administration’s takeover of the city's police department.

"This initiative aligns with our values of service and dedication to our communities," said West Virginia Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Jim Seward, who will take command of the troops.
