Coach Mark Byington’s Vanderbilt Commodores are undefeated and on what is currently the nation’s fifth-longest win streak.

There are seven undefeated teams in men's college basketball. Those teams include the Commodores as well as Michigan, Duke, Arizona, Iowa State, Nebraska and Miami (Ohio). Iowa State and Nebraska are 11-0 and Arizona is 9-0. The other four teams are 10-0.

The Tigers found an early groove offensively, taking a 7-0 lead out of the gate and leading 15-4 at one point. SIU has fought back, but Memphis leads 22-17 with 7:57 left in the first half. Four players, led by Dug McDaniel (six points), have scored at least four points so far.

It didn’t take long after the Tigers tipped off against the Cardinals inside a raucous KFC Yum! Center in a 99-73 loss for one to wonder if Penny Hardaway’s team truly recognized the magnitude of the moment.

Vanderbilt coach Mark Byington is committed to renewing the basketball series against Memphis. Byington stated that teams within Tennessee should compete against each other annually. The Commodores will travel to Memphis for the first game of the renewed series.
