Colts head coach Shane Steichen believes he'll have better luck with Daniel Jones after failing to develop Anthony Richardson.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson's preseason is over. Head coach Shane Steichen told reporters Thursday that Richardson will not play in Saturday's preseason contest against the Cincinnati Bengals after he lost the quarterback race to Daniel Jones.
The Indianapolis Colts made the surprising, and perhaps even premature, decision to name Daniel Jones as the Week 1 starting quarterback, selecting the former Giants and Vikings veteran over former fourth overall pick Anthony Richardson.
“Obviously, I was excited. Excited for the opportunity. As a competitor you want to be on the field, and that’s why you work,” Jones said. “I think we have a good football team.” Jones said he thinks he got the job because he showed Colts coach Shane Steichen that he’s consistent in his leadership of the offense.
