Along those lines, NBC took the public by complete surprise this week by announcing Jordan would contribute to its NBA coverage beginning next season. Fans immediately wondered whether Jordan would abandon his J.D. Salinger-esque streak and begin weighing in on the happenings of the Oklahoma City Thunder in January.

NBC broadcaster Mike Tirico, who will be part of the NBA coverage, also addressed Jordan's role on Thursday during an appearance on "The Dan Patrick Show," saying he didn't know much beyond the "special contributor" title and that he's "excited that [Jordan] would even consider doing it."

A six-time NBA champion with the Bulls and a six-time Finals MVP, Jordan spent most of his legendary 15-year career in Chicago, earning league MVP honors five times. He spent the final two years of his career with the Wizards and retired after the 2002-03 season.
