PROVIDENCE, R.I. (OSV News) – Bishop Bruce A. Lewandowski of Providence offered prayers for "all affected by this tragedy" in the wake of a Dec. 13 shooting at Brown University that left two students dead and nine others injured.

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Dozens of Brown University students shielded their candles at a menorah lighting that doubled as a vigil on Sunday night as the Hanukkah arrived under a sheet of snow and a thick blanket of trauma, following a mass shooting in an economics class.

"I have been briefed on the shooting the took place at Brown University in Rhode Island. The FBI is on the scene," President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social. "God bless the victims and the families of the victims.

Former Providence Deputy Police Chief Thomas Verdi said it was unlikely that a high-powered rifle was used, as it would have led to more casualties.

Authorities provided more details about the Brown University shooting suspect, stating that a person of interest was detained in Providence, Rhode Island.
