Tesla Inc.’s sales plummeted 59% last month in Germany, adding to indications that Chief Executive Officer’s Elon Musk political activities are hurting the carmaker’s business in major electric vehicle markets.

The U.S. electric car company’s sales are sliding across Europe, amid what many see as interference in local affairs by Tesla’s chief executive, Elon Musk.

Billionaire Elon Musk’s Tesla sales dropped in the three largest markets of Europe, including 59% in Germany, reported the news agency Bloomberg. Shares were trading lower ahead of the Wall Street open on Thursday.

Tesla’s sales have dropped nearly 60% in January in Germany compared to the same period last year. The same thing is happening throughout Europe. Earlier this week, we reported that Tesla’s sales crashed throughout all European markets in January.

Tesla posted lower sales across five EU countries as competitors with newer models gained and polls show public opinion souring on CEO Musk.

Tesla ( NASDAQ: TSLA) fell to its lowest trading level in 2025 on Wednesday amid more signs that demand in Europe may be faltering. During January, Tesla's ( NASDAQ: TSLA) sales in Germany plunged 59.5% year-over-year to 1,277 vehicles, while Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands all saw drops of more than 40%.

Tesla also posted declines in France and the UK last month, meaning its sales fell in Europe’s three largest EV markets

Tesla sales in a number of major European markets nearly halved in January, partly because of calendar year effects as well as some owners holding off for the new facelifted Model Y.
