After two decades of public financing in Connecticut elections, the 2026 political cycle is expected to be the most expensive yet.

The statewide average in 2025 was the highest of the last five local election cycles. Roughly one-third of registered voters typically turn out for municipal elections. The turnout rate was 33.6% in 2023, 32.1% in 2021, 33.9% in 2019, and 30% in 2017, according to the secretary of the state's office.

CT Gov. Ned Lamont announced the date for a special election for the 139th district. The Democrats and Republicans each plan to hold a caucus.

Many common concerns could be found at a recent meeting of Republicans: safety, political rhetoric, government dependence and costs of living.
