New York Yankees first baseman Paul Goldschmidt (knee) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Goldschmidt is back in the mix after missing three games due to right knee soreness.
Goldschmidt’s return comes at an important juncture. The Yankees’ lineup has been stretched thin with Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge both limited. Stanton is dealing with soreness after playing in the outfield three straight days. His first time back in the outfield since 2023 was required because Judge is limited to DH by an elbow injury.
The New York Yankees' season has been in a downward spiral ever since the start of June. Part of that is because of Paul Goldschmidt's collapse offensively.
Cody Bellinger drove in three runs, Paul Goldschmidt had three hits against his former team and the New York Yankees beat the St.
With Goldschmidt avoiding the IL, Bellinger could move back to the outfield as soon as Friday night if New York subs in Goldschmidt during the game. Otherwise, the team could make the change on Saturday, if and when the latter player returns to the starting lineup.
The Yankees secured a three-game sweep, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 8-4 on Sunday afternoon.
Ryan McMahon singles on a ground ball to right fielder Jordan Walker. Paul Goldschmidt scores. Jasson Domínguez to 3rd.
