Two years after the country’s deadliest rail disaster, many are still demanding greater safety and accountability.

Riot police fired volleys of tear gas, stun grenades and water canon at protesters hurling gasoline bombs and smashed-up paving stones in Athens during mass demonstrations Friday to mark the second anniversary of a devastating train crash that has become a symbol of institutional failure in Greece.

By Edward McAllister ATHENS (Reuters) -Striking workers grounded flights and halted sea and train transport across Greece on Friday and people gathered for protests in anger over a perceived lack of justice two years after the country's worst-ever train crash killed 57 people.

Hundreds of thousands of people participated in demonstrations in Greece and abroad on the two year anniversary of the country’s deadliest train crash. Protesters are upset at the government after an inquiry into the crash found that the safety issues that caused the crash still exist.
