Detroit Tigers rookie reliever Dylan Smith was optioned to Triple-A Toledo between games of Wednesday’s doubleheader in Washington. The move came just moments after Smith was awarded his first career win for throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings in the Tigers’ 11-2 victory in Game 1 at Nationals Park.

The Tigers will place outfielder Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list Tuesday to address right hamstring tightness that forced him out of Sunday’s win over the Twins but has been an issue for him for several weeks,
