The New York Yankees need to make some big moves at the winter meetings if they want to contend for a World Series.

The annual MLB winter meetings have been relatively quiet so far, but there were a pair of high-profile signings on Tuesday afternoon as Kyle Schwarber re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies and Edwin Díaz joined the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Five-time All-Star Pete Alonso is on the verge of a five-year deal worth $155 million with the Baltimore Orioles, sources tell The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. Alonso turned 31 earlier this month and has played his entire career with the New York Mets. He ranked No. 7 on The Athletic’s Big Board of top 50 free agents.
While the Mets walked away from the Winter Meetings in a substantial deficit, they aren't the only ones reeling after the event.
The New York Yankees are not shutting down the possibility of trading a star infielder.
