Cambodia has shut its border crossings with Thailand, as fighting continues between the two forces on Saturday despite US President Donald Trump earlier saying they had agreed to a ceasefire. The crossings will be closed until further notice, according to Cambodia's interior ministry.

President Trump helped end a simmering conflict between Cambodia and Thailand in the summer, but the ceasefire didn't last long.

Fighting between the Southeast Asian countries has been some of the most intense since a five-day battle in July that ended with a ceasefire pushed by Trump.

Thailand is set to hold parliamentary elections on February 8, the election commission said in a statement on Monday, in an earlier-than-expected poll that comes after Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul dissolved parliament last week.
