During PMQs, Tory leader Kemi Badenoch had attacked Mr Starmer and Ms Reeves saying: “She looks absolutely miserable! She looks absolutely miserable. Labour MPs are going on the record to say that the Chancellor is toast, and the reality is she is a human shield for his incompetence.”

And it is unquestionably true that the questions for the Chancellor Rachel Reeves have just got even more difficult after this week's spectacular unravelling of the government's plans for the benefits system.
