Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has proposed tougher national gun laws after a mass shooting in Sydney.

Six teenagers were wounded in a shooting early Sunday in Brooklyn and taken to local hospitals with gunshot injuries, the New York Police Department (NYPD) told Newsweek in an email.

Chicagoans gathered Sunday with heavy hearts to light the menorah on the first day of Hanukkah. The shooting, that left at least 15 dead and 42 wounded, was Australia's deadliest in nearly 30 years.

The Sydney and Brown University attacks have one other thing in common: Both quickly become dragged into the politics of a bitter, divided time, as partisans saw each through the prism of their own ideology and bitter disputes.

This year, the Texas Legislature approved memorials for mass shooting victims in Uvalde, Santa Fe and Centerville. The memorials display names of more than 150 Texans killed.
