US President Donald Trump's recent efforts to broker peace in Ukraine has led to speculation over where a potential face-to-face meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky might take place.

During Monday’s summit, Trump insisted that European nations would be “the first line of defense” for providing security guarantees for Ukraine, but that the U.S. would also contribute.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the strikes highlighted why diplomatic efforts to end the war and stronger air defences were "critical".

Russian forces have advanced in the east of Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, taking the village of Novoheorhiivka close to the Donetsk region, Russia's defence ministry said on Wednesday.
