Atmospheric rivers caused flooding in the Pacific Northwest this month.
After a powerful atmospheric river slammed the Pacific Northwest this week, the area will see a slight break in the region this weekend. Unfortunately, another round of rainfall will impact the Pacific Northwest in the week ahead.
Western Washington gets a brief reprieve this weekend, but another powerful storm system is already taking aim at the region. A Pineapple Express, the nickname for atmospheric rivers originating near Hawaii, is forecast to arrive Monday and could push already swollen rivers back toward flood stage.
The unusually long atmospheric river is forecast to bring heavy rain and high winds to Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia starting Monday.
KOIN 6 Chief Meteorologist Josh Cozart explains when the atmospheric river will return to the Pacific Northwest with soaking rains and wind next week.
